Introduction and background

Thank you for your interest in submiting an application for school year 2022-23 to one or more of the Fayette County Public Schools magnet, specialized academic schools/programs and career & technical programs. Before beginning your application process, please read the following important information.

  • Student name NOT FOUND work around. 

If your student is a current FCPS student and their name is not found in the system please select "current resident in Fayette County, but not enrolled" and it will allow you bypass the name check and you will be able to submit your application manually.  

  • Confirmation Message 

For each application you submit an email confirmation will be received to your email.  Included in the confirmation email will be additional steps in the application process.  Please make sure you click the link titled "confirmation and additional steps". 

Offer notififations will be emailed to any email address that is included on your application.

  • Virtual Learning Options 

Any application submitted to the Virtual Learning Academy Grades K-12 is for school year 2022-23.

  • Elementary and Middle School Gifted & Talented Accelerated Program (GTAP)

The Elementary School Gifted & Talented Accelerated Program is a full-time gifted service option for academically and intellectually gifted and talented students in grades 4-8. 

 The GTAP is located at Ashland Elementary, Meadowthope Elementary, Tates Creek Elementary, Tates Creek Middle, and Winburn Middle Schools.  Students who participate in the middle school GTAP at either Tates Creek Middle or Winburn Middle may continue into the Liberal Arts Academy at Henry Clay High School.

Eligibility for the program includes Gifted and Talented identification in General Intellectual Ability, Language Arts, and Mathematics.  

Tests used for the program inclusion are the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and the Iowa Assessments for Language Arts/Reading and Mathematics.  All FCPS students in grade 3 are given the above tests and will be referred by their school’s Gifted Recommendation Committees if they meet eligibility requirements.  Students in grades 4-7 will also be referred by their school’s Gifted Recommendation Committees if they meet program eligibility requirements.  Students who are already identified in General Intellectual Ability, Language Arts/Reading, and Mathematics will not need to take any additional assessments.  Gifted Recommendation Committees will review the students past MAP data trend for possible additional specific academic testing opportunities.

Parents of students who are enrolled in the Fayette County School System, as well as parents of home schooled or private students, who are interested in this opportunity may fill out an Interest Application Form.

  •   Offer Notification

All GT, Magnet, and Special Academic Program offers will be sent via email (unless specifically stated in your confirmation message) on the following dates:


High School Offers - January 10th & 11th

Middle School Offers - January 12th & 13th

Elementary Offers - January 14th

Please make sure you check your junk mail, spam, and clutter as emails could be routed to those areas.  


NOTE: All families will be notified if your student did not meet the entrance criteria, or received waitlisted status on or before January 14th.  

  •   Other Special Programs

Other Special Programs and Education Options that DO NOT USE THIS APPLICATION but have special entrance criteria and application processes include:

·        Martin Luther King Jr. Academy for Excellence

·        Opportunity Middle College

·        Preschool Program
